Boni (around 1730 – February 19, 1793), was a freedom fighter and guerrilla leader in Suriname. According to tradition, his father was a Dutchman who had his mother, a slave, as a mistress and then disowned her. Pregnant, she fled into the forest, to the Maroons. There, among the Cottica Maroons, Boni was born.
